Recap from Live Half-Blood Prince Screening with D-Rad & David B

Dan Radcliffe took part in the BD Live community screening via of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. Joining him was producer David Barron, filling in for an ailing David Yates who is suffering from the flu and together, they provided fans from around the world with an assortment of news, reflections, thoughts and answers about the Harry Potter series. Of special interest were the comments on the upcoming Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, as we heard directly from David and Dan that the split of the two films is NOT YET Set, and they also want to surprise the fans where it will be. Also, the actors (Dan, Rupert, Emma, Tom, Bonnie) would indeed would be portraying themselves for the Epilogue, and as noted earlier this week, filming would continue to late Spring/early Summer. Other (many!) details we learned during the course of the event transpired as follows:

  1. Dan has reflected, said 5 (OotP) is favorite, due in part to presence of Gary Oldman.
  2. Dan would love to play Sirius Black if had chance to play another part
  3. Dan is not rushing new projects right now. Is focused on HP 7 at moment, says would love to go back on stage one day
  4. Dan Radcliffe says again would love to have Harry's glasses after the filming is done.(they should just let him take whatever he want!!)
  5. Reflecting on Alan Rickman (as Spinners End scene played) Dan says he is 'rather wonderful' as Snape, dry sense of humor.
  6. Says Lupin and Lockhart were his favorite Defense Against Dark Arts teachers, Ken Branagh gave advice/help on Shakespeare (tutoring on 12th night etc)
  7. A continually gracious Dan Radcliffe often remarked on his fellow cast mates, noting the Phelps were nice and funny and Freddie Stroma as Cormac was "really brilliant, a top guy"
  8. Dan says watching HBP now is the first time he seen anything on Blu-ray, notes the Dragon chase from Goblet of Fire is his favorite VFX, and offers much praise to the stunt crew he has worked with over the years, trusting in their decisions on whether he could handle a certain stunt or not. (I've never watch anyth on Blu-ray =_=)
  9. Dan Radcliffe would use the invisibility cloak for "robbing banks" (joke) and "all sorts of fun mischievous stuff" (sounds cool for me ^^)
  10. Dan Radcliffe will NOT be using Twitter.(why not?!)
  11. Digression on topic of Cricket: after England Dan's favorite team is India. Dan also speaks of US NFL, is a NY Giants fan
  12. Discussion of Felix Felicis: Dan would use it in a really big moment. (like the Oscar?)
  13. On Jim Broadbent as Slughorn, despite a lively on screen portrayal, very quiet shy when camera not on, (very similar to Rupert they note) Both praised his work, remarked on sadness shown in Slughorn
  14. Snape would prob be would be better Potions Master than Slughorn as he wrote the book (ie Half-Blood Prince)
  15. In a running joke during entire live screening Dan on birds scene in Vanishing Cabinet, said that he had no idea what going on with the birds (haha!)
  16. Dan: Quidditch Pitch is a fantastic work of imagination and that flying a broom is painful (@_@)
  17. Humorous description of day of filming for Dan, mentions it starts at 6.30 breakfast, "gets scar on", "blood if needed"
  18. Dan has studied magic, has been challenged to Harry Potter trivia and lost every single time (lol)
  19. As film and Trio drinking Butterbeer, DB and Dan reminds fans we can try this at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter next spring (how cool is that!)
  20. Dan Radcliffe speaking on impact of stage work (Equus) on his film work-gained a huge amount of confidence, also speaks to possibility of writing one day for film (besides acting),says so much to learn before tackling directing.
  21. After a break, David Barron remarks on late Robert Knox (Belby) who was tragically murdered before HBP was released, Dan says he was a great guy
  22. DB confirms Evanna Lynch designed Luna's lion hat, both say she is 'brilliant' as Luna, DB says she is very gifted. Also, he says she is very Luna.Dan says Luna is very artistic & very smart. 85% of the costumes are Evanna's design. DB:On the day they cast for Luna, Evanna said that she is born to be Luna & if they don't cast her it's they mistake.(^_^)
  23. As film moves to Slughorn's Christmas party, much laughter over Rupert's various vehicles (including a hovercraft kept at his home)
  24. Dan praises David Bradley as Filch, and notes his acclaim for his theatre work
  25. Dan on Jessie Cave as Lavender:says the heart drawing in the fog on glass in train for Ron one of his favorite parts of film (Rupert is so cute!)
  26. Ron is their favorite Weasley :)
  27. "Cramped and crooked" is description of the Burrow set, DB says detail is brilliant
  28. Attack on the Burrow discussion. Dan loves this scene, DB says this was used to encapsulate world outside Hogwarts was in danger (love that scene too)
  29. Discussion now on cutting scenes(or adding as in the burrow) have to get to the plot its a hard choice
  30. DH Epilogue, the actors will play themselves 19 years later, would be wrong not to let them complete this journey (wohoo~)
  31. Voldemort is favorite dark wizard for both
  32. Reflecting on passing of Richard Harris (night before massive press junket says Dan), was a larger than life character, person. Both praise Michael Gambon who does not compete against RH.
  33. On Rupert Grint: they praise how funny he was in lovelorn Ron scene. Dan speaks on trying to make R laugh right before a take because Rupert loves to laugh, Ron's frothing from the poisoning is actually egg whites (ew!) Dan: Rupert probably doesn't realize that he is actually a physical comedy genius.
  34. Dan says Atrium in Ministry of Magic is his fave set, DB loves the Gryffindor Common Room (sadly, it was taken down)
  35. Back to bird in Vanishing cabinet, DB tells Dan to listen to track, you can hear cheep cheep of bird as in VC in Borgin & Burkes -a very funny moment for both men here.
  36. Dan would be annoyed by Lavender Brown (as opposed to Colin who is 'really sweet')
  37. DB will look into putting together bloopers from the films (yay!)
  38. Sectumsempra scene now: Dan says he & Tom were getting along so well, Dan & he were like 'cowboys & indians' and it was cool to film scene.
  39. Description of Room of Requirement and DB says If you look carefully one or two artifacts that have appeared in other films (It's like a store room for the film set)
  40. Dan says has broken 7 wands over the years, Devon Murray (Seamus) 8 or 9 and David Thewlis has about 12 (Dont worry... Mr. Ollivander has spares. ^^)
  41. Dan Radcliffe (Harry Potter) would be sorted in HUFFLEPUFF !(nice, but clueless he jokes) but obviously would like Gryffindor (Note: Editor Sue did NOT ask this question but is frankly ecstatic at this news and welcomes Dan proudly into Hufflepuff at any time) (I remember last time I played a quiz I was sorted in Hufflepuff too.)
  42. Dan would like to be able to turn into a Wolfe or other animal (magical creature q) David B-Bowtruckle (well, with his hairy chest, Dan definitely can be a wild wolf)
  43. if Dan could keep a Memory (as in a pensieve) he says it would be 'firsts' in his life like a kiss or the first day on film, but notes he is only 20
  44. DB: Pensieve scenes were cut down because hard to propel a movie forward by going backward (w/all the memory scenes in book) so trick is to move forward & still use these scenes
  45. During cave scene Michael Gambon drank some sort of milky mixture and praises stunt woman who played the Inferi
  46. Dan says that Michael has not yet filmed his scenes for DH (oops secret revealed)
  47. DB says Dan actually filmed cave scene w/real fire in tank 20 feet deep
  48. DB said Harry immobilized on tower did not feel right so they went a different path with the emotional reaction, prep for HP 7 & faith in DD
  49. DB: Kloves is "genius" writer and they asked him to take DD funeral out, he did, they then put it back in & next day took it back out again; felt there were too many endings so funeral was finally cut.Tried hard but decided to just end it there before scene, said actually have phoenix song at end of film but still hard choice :-(
  50. Dan says sense of humor is needed to handle all that comes with the job, ie people making up stuff in paper, etc and you just have to laugh at it all

New Interview with Bonnie Wright

The Mail on Sunday has a new feature online tonight with actress Bonnie Wright. Bonnie reflects on growing up during her years with the Harry Potter series as Ginny Weasley, as well life at University, her work with fashion and much more.

Bonnie speaks to the now famous kiss between Harry (Dan Radcliffe) and Ginny in Half-Blood Prince where she says:
‘The way it was done was very romantic,’ she says of that kiss. ‘Daniel [Radcliffe] and I have always been good friends, which I think worked in our favour. It’s the only love scene I’ve filmed, but I imagine if you had to do one with some random person that you had no relationship with, it would feel very strange. 'It makes the on-screen relationship make more sense – this idea that we’ve known each other, and in a sense grown up together, off-screen as well as on. Dan is so energetic and really good fun, and the way he works is extremely professional.’ My character initiates the kiss,’ she says, ‘which is great because it gives this power to girls and shows that it’s OK to be the one who makes the approach.’

As to the development of Ginny in the last film, Bonnie noted: ‘Well, it’s hard to know if what she’s seen on the screen has influenced the storyline,’ she says modestly, ‘but I’m thrilled that I’ve been given the chance to sink my teeth in and show what I can do. I felt, in the last one, as though I really got to create something worthwhile.’ And so did the critics, who lauded her breakout performance.

Bonnie Wright also talks of going to University and a career in film with the following:

‘I’m not quite sure if I’ll end up behind or in front of the camera,’ she says, ‘but because the scale of Harry Potter is so massive – just hundreds and hundreds of cast and crew – I’d love to do something totally different next: maybe a small independent project where the whole team worked really closely together, something creative, not just churning out a film to put bums on seats.’ Amazingly, she manages to say this without sounding ungrateful, just matter-of-fact. She adds, ‘I’ve always admired actresses like Cate Blanchett and Nicole Kidman – especially for her work in Moulin Rouge and The Hours – but I’ve never really fixated on anyone and thought, “I want to do exactly what they’ve done.” I really just want to do my own thing.’

The interview also covers her love of fashion and her involvement in the Made-by project and sums up with her thoughts on the upcoming Deathly Hallows:

‘When I read the book, I was shocked that my character had turned into something so big,’ she says.Bonnie admits to feeling wistful as the end draws near (they wrap next June). ‘We’ve been so busy filming it that there hasn’t really been time to think about the fact that this is the last one. It will be very strange when it’s over and very sad. I don’t think any of us thought about it until the recent press promotion, when people started saying, “The end is near.” And we were, like, “It is?” When we’re filming you forget about the millions of people waiting for it to come out. And then when you turn up at a premiere and see thousands of people, you go, “Whoa!”’

But I sense real excitement in Bonnie about leaving her alter ego Ginny Weasley behind and moving on. It’s only too easy to imagine her as a leading light in arty independent films.‘I know what Ginny would do in every situation, and relate to her because we’ve both got older brothers,’ she says. ‘But I think all of us who’ve been there from the beginning have got to the point where we want to do something different, be someone different.‘People always ask, “Is this going to be the biggest thing in your career?” And while I don’t think there’s ever been anything like Harry Potter, that’s gone on for so long and maintained its popularity, I think the answer – for me and for all of us – is that more challenging.

Filming on DH Now Will Run Until June 2010

One of those interview with MTV, Tom discusses filming Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and the article points out the ongoing shoot still has a long way to go, stating that filming will now run until June.

Of interest are new comments from Tom on the filming of the Battle of Hogwarts, as he stated "It's kind of cool, because this is the first time we've had so many castmembers on one set at one time, especially everyone from the evil camp and everyone from the good camp in a Western-style showdown — without revealing too much," said Felton. "It's an amazing last scene, what we've shot of it so far. It's very exciting..."I've rarely had an opportunity to work with the evil family," he said. "I'm working with Helena Bonham Carter, who's a lovely lady and also a completely scary witch when she wants to be. I'm enjoying working with adult cast tremendously."

Glad to know at least there's still about 6 months more before they're officially wrapped.

Scholastic.com Interview with Bonnie & Tom

Scholastic.com has a new interview online today with Bonnie Wright (Ginny Weasley) and Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy.) In this interview they discuss a variety of topics including their thoughts on Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling, scenes from the books they wish had been filmed and the final Harry Potter novel. Quotes of interest:

Q: Are you both happy about the way your parts got more important in the last book?
Bonnie: Yeah I definitely was happy where J.K. Rowling took the character of Ginny. I think if we were all told at the first film where our characters would end up, I don't think any of us would have imagined. It's just really enjoyable and sort of unnerving at the beginning when you do read the last book.
Tom: Seriously. When that came out I was like, I'm not going to read it. I'm going to wait for the script. I don't want to be reading bits in the book and thinking I can't wait to do that and then find out it's not going to be featured. And that lasted about an hour, and within it being released in a day I read the whole thing!

Q: Tom, originally you were auditioning for the role of Harry Potter.
DracoTom: Yes. I thought they would dye my hair a dark brown for Harry one week, then red for Ron for another week. The week after that, blond for Draco.

Q: So your blond hair's not really blond?
Tom:
Seriously? No, definitely fake. It's a painful routine where every week needs the roots touched up.

Q: What is your natural hair color?
Tom:
It's been a while so I couldn't tell you. But I've been told my eyebrows [are the same as my natural hair color]. So I'm looking forward to finding out whatever it is.
Bonnie: Brown.

Q: What's the most amusing thing you've read [in the media] about yourselves?
Tom:
I was in Twilight last week. And I'm doing a Burberry campaign next week. So both of those things are untrue as far as I know.

Q: Which of the other actors do you look up to?
Tom: I look up massively to Dan, Rupert and Emma. I think they hold the fort single-handedly so well. They're all superb actors and they carry the feature through beautifully. And they deal with it like it's nothing! I know we're all here quite a bit, but they're here religiously. Endless days, and yet Daniel takes it all in his stride and absolutely loves it. I always admire watching him on set.

Q: How would you describe J.K. Rowling?
Bonnie:
I always find it so surreal meeting her. This whole world literally is because of one person.

Tom:
She's a very unassuming down-to-earth lady, the most lovely lady. I was always taken away by how genuine she seemed, and how unaffected by the fact that she's probably the world's biggest author.

Q: Do you both have all the Harry Potter movies at home? Do you watch them from time to time?
Bonnie:
Yeah, we're always given lots and lots of copies every time they come out.
Tom: Yeah, plenty of DVDs. It's cool. They play it on TV so much, I swear. It's just kind of weird looking back at yourself when you were [high voice] speaking like this [normal voice] and then you were that tall. Bonnie: We should have a little movie marathon.
Tom: Yeah, one day.
Bonnie: Maybe in like twenty years or something.
Tom: Yeah. I've never actually sat down and properly watched them from start to finish. It might be kind of cool one day.
