Although I feel a bit disappointed that HBP did'nt earn the top spot at the US box office but glad that it wasn't New Moon who beated HBP ^^

I am very pleased and overjoyed to learn that it was the highest grossing film internationally.

I think it's so funny how people make such a big deal about how much money a film makes in america when hp is almost always the highest in international box office and that i find even more impressive, how our franchise transcends cultures and languages. ---- abandonedboyjon

The 10 MUST-SEE SEQUELS of 2010

1. HAIRSPRAY 2: WHITE LIPSTICK

"Hairspray" became the talk of the town in 2007 when it set the record for the biggest opening for a movie musical. Although the record was later broken by the release of "Mamma Mia!", the movie went on to be the fourth highest grossing musical in U.S. cinema history. Plus, it has been nominated in the Oscar Academy Award. Its commercial success soon led New Line Cinema to ask writer John Waters to pen "Hairspray 2: White Lipstick" despite the fact that the original film was based on the Broadway musical. While the first movie delves around early 60's music and highlights on the racial segregation, the sequel enters the late '60s era of music and takes a look at the British Invasion. There will also be 17 brand new songs from Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman to be expected.

Things you should know about Hairspray 2:
1. Tracy (Nikki Blonsky) is hated because she’s now famous but doesn’t lose weight.
2. Link (Zak Efron) gets a mop-top Beatles hairdo and tries to masquerade himself as a member of the British Invasion in an attempt to remain hip. The hair causes three pimples to spawn on his forehead, which he has “an ongoing dialogue” throughout half the movie. He also somehow accidentally experiments with acid. Shankman later said that Link’s drug storyline probably won’t make it into the final film.
3. Edna (John Travolta) gets hooked on diet pills, actually loses weight, but sees her husband (Christopher Walken) lusting after fat women. Shankman told MTV, “she finally breaks down and runs over to a snack table. Just within one number, she gets fat again; gaining 20 pounds at a time. [Her fat] pops out, and by the end of the song she’s completely at her old weight again.”
4. Velma Von Tussle (Michelle Pfeiffer) will likely not appear in the sequel due to the introduction of a new villain.
5. Someone gets drafted into war, but it isn’t Link.
6. New Line/Warner Bros has yet to official announce any actors/actresses for the sequel, but they have said that they hope to keep most of the original cast.
7. The film is tentatively scheduled to hit theaters in mid-July 2010.


2. SAW VII

Jigsaw may be six feet under, but his deadly games continue to live on through two of his accomplices, Mark Hoffman and Jill Tuck. But, with "Saw VI" underperforming the other "Saw" sequels and scoring the lowest worldwide gross of the series, what could the filmmakers do to steal interest back for "Saw VII"? The answer is simple, 3-D. Back in October, producer Mark Burg and co-writer Marcus Dunstan have confirmed that the latest and possibly the last installment of the annual Halloween horror series will be opened to view using the technology. If the conventional presentation of the traps has sent your heart racing, imagine what the 3-D will accomplish.


3. LITTLE FOCKERS

Been wondering how Greg, Pam and their eccentric parents are doing after their last crazy get-together in "Meet the Fockers"? "Little Fockers" will satisfy your curiosity. Having passed a series of unfortunate events to finally tie the knot, Greg and Pam find themselves five years later coping with twin toddlers in this follow-up of the highest grossing live action comedy in history. But, the Fockers' brood isn't the only subject matter presented to inflict humor. Writer John Hamburg promised that the movie will also deal with death and divorce, but "in a really comic way". Let's not forget also about Jessica Alba who is set to "wreak havoc on the male characters" as a sexpot pharmaceutical rep.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, the seventh and final instalment in J.K. Rowling's wizardly bildungsroman, is Globe Books' choice as Book of the Decade. Not only was it the single most awaited, debated and anticipated volume, it also can stand for Harry Potter as a phenomenon, for a series that grows more sophisticated and darker with each episode, a series in which millions of people fret over the fates of the beloved young wizard, his pals and mentors as they battle the forces of evil marshalled by Lord Voldemort.

Take sales: In the first 24 hours of its release on July 21, 2007, the novel sold a mind-boggling 15 million copies in 93 countries.

Take effect: Millions of children, especially boys, for whom reading had been something remote, intimidating, uninteresting, took to Potter as a wizard to a wand. Why this??: The cast & trailer caught my eyes.

Why this??: After I watched the trailer, I thought it is a bit like the orphan. People has many good comments on this movie, so I would give it a try. After all, Renee is a great actress.

Why this??: There's rumor claimed that Emma Thompson won't be starring as Professor Trelawney in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows b/c of this film. The HP cast like Maggie Smith & Raplh Finnes definitely worth every penny. 18. THE KARATE KID Release Date: 10 June 2010 Language: English Running Time: 1 hour 48 minutes Director: Harald Zwart Cast: Jaden Smith, Jackie Chan. Synopsis: 11 year-old Dre Parker (Jaden Smith) and his mother, Sherry, are forced to move to Beijing, China as a result of a job transfer. Dre struggles to adapt and finds himself in trouble with one of the toughest boys at school. Unknown to Dre, Mr. Han, his apartment building's maintenance man and a retired karate instructor, has been secretly watching Dre's struggles. Mr. Han steps in to defend Dre and becomes his mentor. Why this??: Jaden is a very talented young actor (I guess he get the skills from his dad, it's in his blood.) 19. TOY STORY 3 Why this??: Toy Story is part of my childhood ^^

Novels from the Harry Potter series by author J. K. Rowling have been included in six of the ten spots on USA Today's list of the Top Ten Books of the 2000s. Miss Rowling's novels placed along side the popular Twilight series by Stephanie Meyer and the Dan Brown novel The Da Vinci Code on this list. The paper notes:

Human readers made it a big decade for novels about wizards, vampires and a Harvard symbologist. Two series for kids with "crossover" appeal to grown-ups —J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter and Stephenie Meyer's Twilight— swept nine of the top 10 spots on USA TODAY's best-selling books of the decade. Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code is No. 2.

Rowling was a best seller before 2000, when third book Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire [sic] sold a record 3 million copies its first weekend.

By 2007's release of the finale, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows, speculation about Harry's death (unfounded) rose to levels not seen since Charles Dickens' 19th-century serials. A record 8.3 million copies sold in a day.

First of all, congrats to Jo got 6 out of 10 spots!
However, I don't understand why on earth is Meyer’s Twilight above Jo and Harry Potter? All the other lists had Jo at the top with statistics…Why is Twilight at the top when HP has sold so many times more?! It said right in the article DH got over 8.5 million in the first 24 hours, and that hasn't happened in ages… bloody hell, so then why isn't it at the top???

The Telegraph has ranked Harry Potter author J. K. Rowling in the number one spot of their list compiling the top 100 bestselling authors of the decade. With over twenty-nine million copies sold, Miss Rowling's novels beat out books by such other authors as Dan Brown, John Grisham, J. R. R. Tolkien, William Shakespeare, and Frank McCourt. According to the paper, sales figures the Harry Potter novels released from the year 2000 to 2009 total 225.9 million pounds. The top ten bestselling authors are as follows:

As 2009 comes to a close, newspapers continue to take stock of the decade, compiling lists which look back the past ten years. Tonight, the Guardian has such a list, naming the Harry Potter series as one of their "Icons of the Decade." In this profile, the newspaper goes through the history of the series, noting its impact on the world of publishing, presence in Hollywood, and influence in literature. Calling Harry Potter "the first new global superhero of the 21st century," the Guardian highlights the decision of author J. K. Rowling to have her characters age throughout the series. It goes further, mentioning the universal popularity of the books among different age groups. Quoteage:

Admittedly, this concession to nature also caused problems. Readers who joined the hero with The Philosopher's Stone were probably close to the school year he was in. But, by the time Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was published in 2007, the core audience for the series stretched from 8 to 21, with original readers now joined by primary schoolers who had caught up late with the early books and films. But because Rowling intentionally deepened and darkened the sequence as the cast met adult appetites, the later stories were not suitable for the boy wizard's youngest new fans, leading to tears at bedtime.

Rowling's decision to let her characters grow up is one of the most fascinating aspects of the project. The movies followed this model by having the major characters played by the same actors across what will be eight films by 2011 (the last is a two-parter), the changes in their voices and bodies regarded not as continuity errors but dramatic realism.

The recommended age-range of the stories also introduced another controversy. Until the 21st century, a fully educated adult seen reading juvenile literature on public transport would expect to receive pitying stares and possibly even a visit from social services.

However, Harry Potter was responsible for the common sight of people between their 20s and 70s sitting on trains or lying on beaches gripped by fiction that they would previously have bought only as gifts for children or grandchildren. To reduce the stigma, Rowling's publishers introduced the practice – later extended to Philip Pullman as well – of the novels being produced in two different jackets: kiddie-garish, wrinkly-pastel. My personal view is that older readers should pick on something their own size, but this vivid evidence of the universality of Rowling's appeal is a major reason that she and Harry Potter will stand as one of the most remarkable phenomena in the history of popular fiction.

Business and world finance magazine The Economist has published a lengthy profile on the varied ways in which the Harry Potter series by author J. K. Rowing as impacted on the financial and business markets over the past twelve years.

This production line at Leavesden Studios, which has been running for almost a decade, will soon be switched off. “People talk about the effect of factories closing,” says David Heyman, who produces the Harry Potter films. “When we stop filming next May, at least 800 people will be looking for work.”

Times Online has a fun and probing Q&A with actor Tom Felton, in which he discusses the people in his life who have been most significant.

Actor Tom Felton, 22, was born in Epsom, Surrey, and now lives in Dorking, also in Surrey.

My mum
In no way was she one of those mothers pushing me to act. In fact, I don’t think she wanted me to become an actor at all, which makes the sacrifices she made to get me here even more amazing.
I have been acting since I was 9, but at that age you can’t go up to London on your own or agree to anything independently, so she was always with me. At one point I got a part that required filming in Malaysia for four months (when he filmed Anna and The King at Langkawi. hehe... I found this from IMDb ^^), so she had to give up her job to come with me. It didn’t mean anything to me at the time, but I hope that in years to come I can repay her.


My one and only girlfriend
Jade is my soulmate and I get on with her better than anyone else. We fell in love on the set of Half-Blood Prince [she was the stunt co-ordinator’s assistant] and have just celebrated our 21-month anniversary. I sent her a box of goodies at work: Elemis skin products, Molton Brown bath stuff and other things she likes, which is always a winner. I have quite an extensive knowledge of beauty products now.


My brothers
There are four of us: Ashley lives in Australia, Jonathan in London, and Chris lives with me. I was the runt of the litter, so I never got to sit on the couch or watch any of the TV programmes I liked. Now our relationship is high on banter, although the times when we are together are few and far between.


My dog
I have had Timber, my Chesapeake Bay retriever, for three years. I try to be strict with her, but Jade spoils her rotten. My mum never let us have a dog when we were younger – which, in hindsight, I don’t blame her for – but the first thing I did when I got a house was buy a puppy.


My inspirational director
David Yates has this beautiful calmness and clarity about what he wants. I had no confidence in my ability to be an actor for the rest of my life, but he embedded a passion for film in me.


My best friends
Everyone used to ask me what my friends thought of Harry Potter and I always felt I had to say they loved it, but I can finally admit that they didn’t have any interest in it whatsoever. But that worked really well for me because, when we met, I could forget about what I do and just be normal.

The February 2010 issue of Total Film Magazine featured our favourite speccy wizard & actor Rupert Grint. RupertGrint.net, reports that the magazine includes a photo spread showing Mr. Grint dressed as the title character from the film Napoleon Dynamite.

The accompanying article quotes the young actor as saying: "I was obsessed with it when it came out. I had the t-shirt and everything." The brief article goes on to feature comments by Mr. Grint about his experience on the Harry Potter films, as well as the film Cherrybomb. On this subject, he notes:

"Cherrybomb was a real departure. There was a whole transformation - different voice, just a completely different character."

Amazon UK: HP on Top Selling Lists & Selling Authors of the Decade

The online retailer Amazon.co.uk has revealed its top 10 highest-selling books of the decade, with Harry Potter and Twilight featuring heavily.

The final two tales in JK Rowling's Harry Potter series occupy the top two positions, with another Rowling work, The Tales of Beedle the Bard, also in the Amazon top 10.
Eight of the 10 books on the list were written by women. The only male to make an appearance is the Afghan-born novelist Khaled Hosseini, whose books The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns round off the list.
